mpeg2@disk

MPEG-2@Disk Is a standalone, real-time Digital Video Recorder/Player based upon the latest MPEG compression technology. It records video and audio in either MPEG-1 or MPEG-2 format to a Removable Hard Drive. A big advantage over tape-based VCR's is the minimal deterioration over time and no loss of quality, even after hundreds of playbacks. This makes the MPEG-2@Disk the perfect choice for continuous playback duty and an excellent alternative to high performance VCR's. It is available in a wide variety of configurations to offer maximum flexibility. Composite, S-Video and Stereo Audio inputs and outputs are standard and other formats are optionally available. All models are NTSC-PAL compatible with auto-detection. User selectable bitrates of 1.2, 2.4, 4.0 or 6.0 or 8.0 Megabits per second permit a choice of the desired quality level when recording. Front panel controls have a familiar VCR-type functionality, including a Jog-Shuttle knob. Slow motion playback in 4 speeds is a standard feature.

The RS-232 interface facilitates flexible control schemes from external devices. Third party machine control and automation companies can provide standard or custom solutions. All command information is made available for developing custom control applications. Optional Scheduling Software is available to allow control from a PC. Since all protocol is included in the manual, systems integrators and end-users can write custom control software. In addition to standard VCR-type control functions, this interface also allows addressing of individual tracks, which makes it ideal for commercial insertion or video jukebox applications. In addition to handling machine control functions, the RS-232 port can be connected to a PC to update the internal software systems of the MPEG-2@Disk machine. This enables users to take advantage of improvements or additional features by downloading the new code from our website and updating the unit's non-volatile memory. An optional Keypad is available to control the unit from short distances.

Even when not being controlled by an external controller, the MPEG-2@Disk's internal Play List function permits programmed playback of sequential or non-sequential tracks. The Play List information remains on the disk, so when the unit is powered up, it can automatically go into the Play List mode. The Play List can also be exported to a PC, manipulated and imported back into the unit.

MPEG-2@Disk models are available with 40GB, 75GB or 120GB Removable IBM Hard Drives to offer flexibility in storage capacity. For example, the 120GB version can hold up to 222 hours at VCD quality or 44 hours in DVD quality. The Specifications List provides complete details of the recording times for various models at different recording bit rates. Special ATC (Around The Clock) software is available to permit constant recording and for video logging and surveillance applications.

An optional IEEE1394 DV I/O Option is available to provide an all digital signal path. A YUV Output Option (but not Input) is available. An optional 19" rackmounting kit is also available.
